Baseball Takes Final Game in SBCC Series After 13 Innings
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After falling in the first two games of the three-game series against Santa Barbara City College, the Allan Hancock College baseball team battled through 13 innings to secure a dramatic 9-8 victory and snap a five-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon.
Hancock fell on the road in game one, 3-1, before dropping a 9-3 decision at home in game two. After the series, AHC moves to 15-16 overall (6-9 WSC) while the Vaqueros now boast a 19-10 record (11-4 WSC) on the season.
The Bulldogs struck early and often on Saturday, plating two runs in the first inning and adding four more across the next three frames to take a 6-5 lead. After SBCC rallied to tie the game at 8-8 in the ninth, both teams went scoreless through three tense extra innings. Hancock finally broke through in the top of the 13th, scoring two decisive runs and sealing the win. Richie Robles used a double to plate the first runner in the frame before making his own way home after a sacrifice fly from Josue Garcia towards the end of the inning.
Four members of the visiting squad highlighted a successful offensive showing for the team. Colin Johnston had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-6 with a triple, double, two RBIs, and a walk. Robles followed with two doubles and two RBIs, while J. Garcia delivered three RBIs on the day. Andrew Sandoval rounded out the top performers by staying hot with a 3-for-6 performance and two runs scored at the top of the order.
Austin Moccardini started the game in a non-decision appearance, throwing three innings and battling through early pressure. Hunter Beck was solid in long relief, striking out eight over six innings while allowing just two runs before Evan Chavez entered to pick up the win. The Lompoc native tossed the final four frames and held the Vaqueros to one run on two hits.
The Bulldogs are set to face off against Ventura College this week for the final three-game series of the season. They will travel on April 8th and April 12, and will host on April 10 at 2 PM.
