Butte College Volleyball Splits Matches in Competitive Day

Pittsburg, CA – [September 25, 2024] –

The Butte College volleyball team had a mixed day of competition on Wednesday, showcasing their talent and determination in two matches at Los Medanos College. The Roadrunners celebrated a strong victory over Los Medanos College with a score of 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18) but faced a tough challenge against 3C2A Top 25 14th ranked Solano College, ultimately falling 1-3 (17-25, 25-20, 20-25, 8-25).

In the first match of the day against Los Medanos, Butte College demonstrated impressive teamwork and skill. The Roadrunners fought hard to secure the win, taking the match in four sets. However, in their second match against Solano College, the Roadrunners encountered a formidable opponent. Despite their best efforts, Butte College struggled to maintain momentum and lost the match 1-3.

Head Coach Ed Jackson stated "The win over Los Medanos was a great confidence boost for the team. Los Medanos is well coached. Our team did a fantastic job adjusting the changes being implemented by LMC and executed our game plan effectively."

Regarding Solano, "We learned a lot from the match against Solano," Coach Jackson added. "Coach Williams is a well respected coach. Her team played with the consistency worthy of a top 25 state ranking. While we didn't come out on top, we have valuable takeaways that we can build on moving forward."

Key players stepped up, with standout performances in both matches. Freshmen Outside Hitter Hallie Horsley led with 23 Kills for the day, Soph. Middle Blocker Rylee Keim added 11 kills on 22 attempts with only 1 attack error garnering a .454 hitting percentage in both matches. Keim performed flawlessly against 14th ranked Solano College with 6 kills on 12 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage and no attack errors. Sophomore Setter Kaitlyn Poblano guided the roadrunners adding 24 assists. Sophomore Libero Zoey White contributed with 33 digs with 21 of those defensive contributions from the Solano match averaging more than 5 digs per set against a 3C2A top 25 ranked opponent. Freshman Setter Kaley Rawlick contributed with 8 service aces. 

With the split results, The team is looking forward to refining their strategies and building on their strengths as they prepare for upcoming matches.

The Roadrunners will return to action on October 11th, ready to take on College of the Siskiyous in Weed, CA. beginning Golden Valley Conference play
