Leschak’s Big Day Propels Cañada Past Hartnell College
Hartnell College was the first to get on the board in the top of the 1st, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the 1st the Colts answered back when Fr. 1B Cole Leschak singled down the left field line, scoring So. SS Kyler Bittner to tie up the game.
Cañada flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the 2nd, scoring eight runs on seven hits to take the lead, 9-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to left field by Leschak that drove in three.
Four more Cañada runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 14-2. Fr. LF Caden Cuccia doubled, scoring two runs, and Bittner homered to left field, scoring two runs.
The Colts added to their lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning thanks to home runs by So. DH Dominic Avila and So. 3B Jacob Brewer.
The final 2 Colt runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the 8th after a double by Leschak scored So. C Colter McMasters who was hit by a pitch and Fr. OF Stone Savage who singled to left field.
Fr. RHP Shawn Pagee earned the win for the Home Team. The righty gave up nine hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking none. So. LHP Drew Parenti came in to relieve followed by So. RHP Gianvito Carriglio who threw one and two-thirds innings of zero-run ball for the Colts to close out the game. Carriglio gave up one hit, striking out one and walking one.
The Cañada offense accumulated 21 hits in the game. Cuccia, So. 2B Chris Arce, and Leschak each collected three hits while Fr. RF Justin Gladfelter, McMasters, So. CF Carson Vance, Avila, and Brewer each collected two. Bittner snagged two of the four stolen bases by the Colts. Defensively, Cañada turned four double plays in the game.
