Baseball Loses to #7 Cypress, Host #3 Fresno City Tomorrow

Cuesta opened its annual Cuesta/Hancock Spring Break Tournament with a loss to #7 Cypress.  The visiting Chargers jumped out early with two runs in their first at bat, but the Cougars took a brief lead in the 3rd, 3-2, on a pair of RBI-singles from Outfielders Jak Sinclair and Aidan Botti.  Heading into the 7th inning the game was tied at five-all, but the Chargers scored twice before the stretch and put the game away on Justin Tilar's grand Slam in the 8th inning.  Cuesta left the bases loaded in both the 8th and 9th innings, while stranding 16 runners on the day, including the bases loaded four times. On the brightside, First Baseman Tristan Usher and Outfielder Max Hunter both enjoyed multi-hit games.  Usher went 3-for-5 and scored twice, while Hunter was 2-for-4 with a run batted in.  They both also posted a stolen base.  On the mound, Marc Byrum entered the game with the Cougars trailing in the 3rd inning and retired 10 of the first 11 batters he faced.  However, Byrum was eventually saddled with the loss when the Chargers used a pair of errors and hit to take back the lead in the 7th, 7-5.  Cypress then added Tilar's four insurance runs to put the game out of reach.  The loss dropped the Cougars to 13-11 on the season

The Cougars have two more games left on their tournament schedule.  Cuesta continues to face the top of the Polls on Thursday (1 PM) with #3 Fresno City, however they shall close out the event on Friday (1 PM) versus unranked Merced.
