Women's beach volleyball team takes one of two on Friday

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team defeats Riverside, 3-2, and falls to Golden West, 4-1, in Orange Empire Conference games at home on Friday.

IVC's top pair of sophomores Audrey Fowler and Avery Bennett win both matches and remained unbeaten in OEC play.

Irvine Valley's record went to 9-13 overall and 9-5 in conference play.

The Lasers started the day with the win over Riverside.

IVC had to forfeit matches on the fourth and fifth courts and fell behind, 2-0.

But Irvine Valley won three matches played to earn the overall win.

Fowler, who recently signed to play at NCAA Division I Tarleton State, and Bennett won their match, 21-14, 21-11.

On the second court, sophomores Alya Mersin and Jayva Andersen came out on top, 21-15, 21-15, and IVC's No. 3 pair of freshmen Jessica Lopez and Jheazrell May Quindoza, won, 21-15, 21-18. 

Against Golden West, IVC also forfeited on the fourth and fifth courts.

Fowler and Bennett earned the Lasers' victory with a hard-fought, 21-16, 12-21, 16-14 win over Golden West's top team of Hayden Johnston and Maren Matthews.

Irvine Valley plays again next Friday, taking on Cypress and Santa Ana. 

Santa Ana is the host college.
