
Freshman rightfielder Devon Eskridge unleashed some powerful swings as he batted 5-for-6 with a home run, a double and six RBI in helping the Pasadena City College baseball team post a 16-2 rout over Compton. The South Coast Conference game was played at PCC's home diamond at Brookside Park's Jackie Robinson Field.
Trailing 2-0, Eskridge put PCC ahead 3-2 in the third inning on a RBI single up the middle. In the fifth, he rocked a run-scoring double to right center, and in the sixth, the 6-foot-3, Arcadia High grad launched a towering 2-run homer over the left center field fence--his third round-tripper of the season.
The hot-hitting of catcher Joaquin Salcedo continued as he batted 4-for-5 with two bomb doubles and three RBI while third baseman Devin Munoz was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a sacrifice fly. First baseman Adrian Roman added two hits.
Hugo Tafoya (3-1) had a solid outing as he pitched eight innings, surrendering just seven hits, one earned run, walking two and recording five strikeouts. Aiden Nunez closed it out with a scoreless inning and two K's.
The Lancers upped their record to 11-7 overall and 6-4 in SCC play, moving into fourth place in the standings.
Going into the game, utllity player Isaac Ton briefly was leading the state in batting at .500, but he was 0-for-3 and drew three walks. Salcedo raised his average to .462 as he leads the Lancers in RBI with 24.
Pending rain forecasts, PCC is scheduled to play at Compton on Thursday, March 13 in a 2 p.m. first pitch.
