SBVC Left Feeling Tied Up Against COD

In soccer, a bounce here and a bounce there could change the course of a game.

Tuesday evening, the bounce went against the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team.

Clinging to a 1-0 lead, a College of the Desert free kick deflected in off an SBVC defender, sending the two rivals home with a 1-1 tie.

The Wolverines had taken the lead in the second half. In the 64th minute, Ferryn Koss sent a ball over the top on the left side to Allyson Awunganyi. Awunganyi raced down the left wing, beat her defender and turned toward the COD goal. She sent a cross pass to a streaking Anisa Rodriguez, who redirected the ball into the Desert net for the 1-0 lead.

Desert picked up the pressure from there. In the 86th minute, the Roadrunners were awarded a free kick about 40 yards out. Ashley Murguia hit the ball toward the SBVC goal, where a defender attempted to clear the ball. But the ball bounced off another SBVC defender and into the Wolverines' net to tie the game.

Ana Barajas made four saves to hold off the Roadrunners attack, while Desert goalkeeper Jessica Uribe had six saves, as SBVC pushed for the win.
