In another huge victory in RPI for the Lancers, the Pasadena City College baseball team outslugged state #5 Riverside CIty, 12-10, in a non-conference game on Friday at Brookside Park's Jackie Robinson Field.
Just a two days after defeating #10 Golden West, PCC beat another Orange Empire power in the Tigers (16-8) as Pasadena won its fourth in a row.
Tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the second, the Lancers put up a four-spot in that frame and then did it again in the fourth to take an 11-3 lead.
Riverside chipped away and sliced it to two with a run in the ninth. With a runner on third, RCC's Dylan Nelson hit a high hopper that looked like it would go into right for a single only to see Lancers second baseman Omar Cisneros make a leaping play to rob the hit and then gun it to first for the final out. Closer Matt Garcia picked up his third save.
Catcher Joaquin Salcedo continues to swing a powerful bat as he hit 3-for-4 with three runs scored, including a RBI single in the second, a solo home run to right center in the fourth, and a double down the left field line in the eighth. The freshman is second in the South Coast Conference in batting with a .462 average and tops the conference in slugging percentage at .859. Salcedo has 19 extra-base hits, 12 for doubles and five round-trippers.
Cisneros also had a solid day at the plate as he went 3-for-3 and drew two walks while centerfielder Troy Estrada, a late insertion into the starting lineup batted 2-for-4 with three RBI. Rightfielder Devon Eskridge was 2-for-5 with a RBI double in the first and Adrian Roman added a 2-run double to center in the second.
Joe Bacon had to relieve an injured starter Connor Campbell in the first, and delivered his best performance of 2025 as he hurled 5.2 innings, allowing five hits, four runs and credited with his first mound win of the season.
On Monday, Coach Pat McGee's Lancers play a makeup game at conference foe Compton to complete their 3-game series in a 2 p.m. first pitch.
