The Coso baseball team took the series win in their midweek set against the #13th state ranked AVC. Losing the first game at home, they bounced back to win the next two games with one of them being on the road. There were many highlights of the week from sophomore leadership to freshman players trying to earn their keep. Notable players of the series were SO Jordan Boman, SO Kyle Phin, SO Dariel Rios, and SO Kanon Welbourne.

On the pitching end of the game, the Yotes battled through walks that would end up leading to unearned runs. SO Jordan Boman flipped the script in his start on Wednesday when he only allowed one walk and 3 runs while punching out 4 of the batters. He threw another solid 6 innings to hold down the fort in Wednesday's game. Head Skipper Justus Scott turned the rock over to SO Kanon Welbourne who then proceeded to finish the game throwing 3 innings and also striking out 4 batters. FR Cayden Johnson had himself a day at the plate going 5 for 5 with 3 RBI's, and SO Dariel Rios also swung a hot bat going 3 for 5.

In their rubber match on Thursday, the Yotes took home the series victory in walk off fashion when FR Andres Vega stole home to take the lead 15-14 in the 11th inning! With the pitching staff walking 13 total batters in this matchup, the Yote bats had no other choice but to get hot. They did just that acquiring 16 hits with help from a homer from who else but SO Jordan Boman for his 7th of the year. SO Kyle Phin had himself a day going 3 for 6 with just a home run shy of the cycle, and FR Isaac Martinez also went 4 for 6 with a triple and was also a thief on the basepaths stealing 3 bases.

Trailing 3 going into the ninth inning, the Coyote offense got rolling again with a clutch 2 out single by SO Stephen Landez to score the tying run. After a big shut down inning going into the bottom of the 11th, the Yotes only needed one for the win. FR Andres Vega gets on base with a sac bunt turned into an error by the pitcher, and game script would allow him to make his way to third. Making a great read on a ball in the dirt, he crashes for the plate and beats the throw by the catcher to give the Coyotes the win.

The Coyotes are back on the road Saturday against West LA, and will return home on Thursday March 6th, to face Barstow College for an IEAC matchup. The Yotes will hope to continue this momentum as conference play starts to ramp up.
