The Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs continued their impressive form, extending their winning streak to seven games with a dominant doubleheader sweep over the #14-ranked Modesto JC Pirates. With stellar pitching, solid defense, and timely offensive outbursts, SRJC showed their ability to take down a ranked opponent in convincing fashion. The Bear Cubs' strong performance in both games further solidified their position as one of the top teams in the region.
Game 1: SRJC 8, Modesto 1
The Bear Cubs wasted no time establishing control in the opening game, winning 8-1. Modesto threatened early, putting runners on base in both the first and second innings, but SRJC's defense and pitching held firm. The Bear Cubs broke through in the bottom of the third, exploding for five runs. Kali Garcia ignited the offense with an RBI single, followed by an RBI double from Mira Olvera. Mya Gonzalez kept the momentum going with an RBI double of her own, and Sofia Uricoechea capped the inning with a two-run single, giving SRJC a commanding lead.
Modesto answered with a run in the fifth, but SRJC responded immediately. Alexis Hoke doubled to start the inning, later scoring on a groundout from Niueni Elisara. The Bear Cubs added an insurance run in the sixth, as Olvera's sacrifice fly plated Kylee Bauman to make it 8-1.
SRJC's pitcher, Mia Avila was dominant, limiting Modesto to just one run while stranding multiple baserunners. The defense came up big as well, preventing Modesto from capitalizing on several scoring opportunities.
Game 2: SRJC 8, Modesto 0
The second game saw the Bear Cubs continue their momentum, shutting out Modesto 8-0 to complete the doubleheader sweep and extend their winning streak to seven games.
The game started as a pitching duel, with both teams struggling to generate offense early. Mira Olvera took control of the game offensively, delivering three key triples that accounted for four RBIs. In the bottom of the third, she drove in the first run of the game with a deep triple to right field before scoring on a sacrifice fly. The fourth inning saw her deliver again, clearing the bases with another triple to extend the Bear Cubs' lead.
The Bear Cubs' pitching shut down Modesto's offense completely as Mya Gonzalez allowed just a handful of hits and stranded runners in key situations.
With the sweep, SRJC not only continued their dominant form but also proved their ability to take down a ranked opponent in convincing fashion.
Next Up: The Bear Cubs will look to keep their streak alive as they travel to face #20-ranked Cosumnes River College on Friday in another tough road test. The doubleheader is set for 12 and 2 PM.
