Colts drop series finale at Chabot
In the third game of the series, the Colts fell to the Gladiators 8-5 on Saturday afternoon at Chabot College. Cañada will have one more crack at Chabot this season, in the final week of conference play, to take care of unfinished business.
The Colts jumped out to take the lead in the top of the first inning after So. CF Carson Vance singled, scoring one run, Fr. RF Justin Gladfelter singled, scoring one run, and So. 3B Jacob Brewer doubled, scoring two runs.
Despite the Colts offense making noise at the plate, inning after inning, they just weren't able to get that timely hit to drive in runs leaving multiple runners stranded. Chabot held Cañada scoreless until the top of the 8th when they walked in the 5th and final run for the Colts.
So. Devin Bettencourt began the game for Cañada. The right handed hurler surrendered five hits and five runs over five innings, striking out two and walking four. Fr. RHPs Aden Dean and Mateo Rojas relieved for the Colts the remainder of the game.
Cañada amassed nine team hits. Fr. LF/SS Caden Cuccia and Vance each collected three hits a piece to lead the Colts offense. Brewer led with two RBI, and So. 1B Dominic Avila led in walks with three. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating nine walks in the game. Defensively, Cañada turned one double play and didn't commit a single error. Vance had the most chances in the field with five.
