Vance With 4 Hits As Cañada Defeats Gavilan 13-2
So. CF Carson Vance collected four hits in five at bats, as the Colts defeated Gavilan College 13-2, on Saturday at Gavilan College. Vance doubled in the 3rd inning, singled in the 4th inning, doubled in the 7th inning, and singled in the 9th inning.
Cañada was first to get on the board in the top of the 2nd inning after So. RF Tanner Van Why doubled down the right field line, and Fr. LF Caden Cuccia singled down the left field line, each scoring one run bringing the score 2-0.
In the top of 3, the Colts added two more runs after So. DH Dominic Avila singled to center field on an 0-2 count.
Cañada's offense scored five runs on four hits in the top of the 4th inning. So. SS Kyler Bittner singled, scoring one run, Fr. 1B Cole Leschak singled, scoring one run, Vance singled, scoring two runs, and one run scored on a sac fly by Van Why.
In the top of 5 another Colt run crossed the plate on a fielder's choice, while two more scored in the 7th on a Bittner single and Vance double. Bittner would then hit a sac fly in the 9th scoring one more run to complete the Colts' damage.
So. RHP. Devin Bettencourt started the game for the Colts. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits and two runs over five innings, striking out two and walking one. Fr. LHP Victor Angulo (2IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 3K) and Fr. RHP Mateo Rojas (2IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 1K) each came on in relief and shutdown the Rams.
Cañada's offense accumulated 20 hits in the game. Vance led with 4, followed by Cuccia, So. 2B Chris Arce, and Bittner with 3. So. C Ethan Payne, Cuccia and Leschak each collected 2 hits for the Colts. The visiting team stole seven bases in the game, turned two double plays and didn't commit a single error in the field. Payne had the most chances in the field with seven.
