
Men's Basketball closed out their home Hinson's Tire Pros Winter Classic with a thorough victory over Gavilan, 77-49. The Rams, who beat local rival Allan Hancock, 70-64, the previous night, but fell behind the Cougars early in the first half. Cuesta's tough zone defense and good ball movement on offense earned the Cougars an eight-point lead at halftime. After the intermission, Cuesta used its depth to blow the game open as nine Cuesta players logged ten minutes or more floor time in the game and five players scored in double-digits. Freshman Mason Romano came off the bench to score a game-high 17 points and added three steals and a team-high six rebounds. The Cougars' Backcourt of Drew Ardouin and Aaron Russell scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Russell also dished out a game-high four assists. 2022 All-WSC First Teamer Juani Dassie (pict) was the Cougars' lone representative on the all-Hinson's Tire Team. Dassie scored a game-high 20 points in the Cougars opening night loss to #2 Sequoias and added 13 points in the victory over Gavilan. The Cougars are 2-2 on the season
The Cagers are on the road next Thursday (7 PM) with a game at San Mateo, but return home to host Merced on Friday (3 PM)
