Having withstood a late charge by host Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday, the Cerritos College men's water polo team posted a 13-10 South Coast Conference win. The Falcons (15-10, 4-1) earned the #2-seed for the South Coast Conference Tournament, which will take place at Mt. SAC starting on November 8. Prior to the tournament, Cerritos will travel to Saddleback College for a 12:00 p.m. non-conference game on Friday.
Entering the fourth period, the Falcons were holding a sizable 11-6 advantage after leading by five goals at intermission. The Mounties closed the score to 8-5 in the third period, but Cerritos responded with goals by Christian Acosta (Schurr HS), Tim Robles (Schurr HS) and Guillermo De La Mora (La Serna HS).
After opening the final period with a goal from Acosta, Mt. SAC accounted for the next three goals to make it a 12-9 game until Johan Gaytan (Downey HS) sealed the win on a goal with :43 seconds remaining.
Sophomore goalkeeper Diego Campos (Downey HS) was masterful in the win, as he turned away a season-high 16 shots, while the duo of Robles and Gaytan led the offense with four goals each.
