The Women's Basketball had hope to have their home opener on campus but Mother Nature had other plans. Due to forecasted Santa Ana wind event and High Heat alert in the area, Moorpark College and the surrounding area was part of an emergency power shut-off that lasted 3 days. The shut-off along with the South Fire, the first two days of the We Are MC tournament was graciously hosted by LA Valley College.
On opening night, the Raiders took on the reverse hosts and defeated the Monarchs 72-51. Genesis Gonzales led the Raiders with 13 points while Mika Jarrett added 12 points.
With campus still closed, day two was once again hosted by LA Valley and the Raiders had a date with nemesis East LA. However, the Raiders were able to slow down ELAC's Asiah Harris on their way to a 78-51 win. A more balanced attack for the Raiders was key to victory. Mika Jarrett had 16 points to lead the Raiders. Mikayla Oliver chipped in 13 points. Alyssa Saldana added 12 points off the bench while Mayleni Tolliver had 11 points.
Finally on day 3, the Raiders were given the green light to bring the tournament home where they face #19 San Jose City. The teams played to a 23-20 San Jose halftime lead. The Jaguars would extend their lead to 30-20 but the Raiders used an 11-5 run to cut San Jose's lead to 35-31.
In the fourth, the Raiders used defense and some timely 3 point shooting to finish out the game on a 25-11 fourth and put the Jags away. Mikayla Oliver had a double-double 11 points 11 rebounds. Kristan Yumul had 11 points, Mika Jarrett and Angelina Santana each added 10 points.
Jarrett was named MVP of the tournament while Oliver and Yumul were named All-Tournament.
Next up the Raiders will take a break before traveling to Glendale on Saturday, 11/23, for a 3pm tip-off.
