Cuesta Baseball Rallies to Beat Allan Hancock, 6-3

Cuesta Baseball opened this week's three-game series against local rival Allan Hancock with a win, 6-3.  Runs were at a premium today, as both teams went scoreless until the visiting Bulldogs posted an unearned run in the 4th.  Allan Hancock doubled its lead with another unearned run in the 6th, but this time Cuesta answered with their own unearned run thanks to a two-base error by the Bulldogs and a single by Cuesta's Aidan Botti.  Hancock added another run on Matt Kovich's solo home run, just before the stretch and doubled their lead, 3-1. The Bulldogs were just six outs away from victory, when Cuesta's bats, finally, got hot.  All-WSC Second Sacker Sean Strittmatter led the inning off with a single, before Catcher Jack Gradel doubled to put two runners in scoring position.  The Cougars called upon Pinch Hitter Jacob Johnson for some heroics, and he did not disappoint. Johnson doubled in both Strittmatter and Gradel to tie the game, while putting himself in scoring position.  Johnson was lifted for Pinch Runner Jarom Damery, who advanced to third on a pass ball and gave the Cougars the lead on another RBI-hit by Botti.  The Cougars, with Botti on first, loaded the bases with Victor Heredia reaching on an error and a single by AJ Martinez, before First Baseman Tristan Usher put the game out of reach with a single and two RBI.  The Bulldogs made a call to the bullpen and the Cougars' rally was squelched with one inning left to play.  Heredia moved from his designated hitter spot to the pitcher's mound and, despite loading the bases, he picked up the save in the Cougars' victory, 6-3.  The win moved the Cougars to 12-9 overall and 7-3 in WSC play.

The Cougars, who out-hit the Bulldogs 10-4, travel to Santa Maria on Thursday (2 PM), before both teams finish the series in SLO on Saturday (1 PM)
