COD Men’s Soccer grabs hard-fought tie with Eagles, 1-1

COD (4-3-4) wrapped up non-Conference play with a hard-fought contest between two teams that would not relent, in the end, a pair of goals within 7 minutes of one another was the difference, as the Roadrunners tied the Los Angeles Mission Eagles of Sylmar (0-7-3), 1-1.

The last time the Roadrunners defeated LA Mission was also the first time they faced one another, in 1993, that opportunity will have to wait for another season as both teams tussled to a 0-0 draw at the half. As the second half commenced, the Eagles turned up the heat in the Desert, forcing the Roadrunners defense to hold fast against the rising tide. A breakthrough occurred in the 74th minute, as freshman defender Nicholas Relerford (Rancho Mirage H.S.) found sophomore forward Vasilios Syrengelas (El Centro Central Union) who poked in a goal past the diving Eagles keeper to give the home side a 1-0 advantage. LA Mission would tie the game six minutes and fifteen seconds later.

The Roadrunners competed against the Los Angeles Mission Eagles of Sylmar for the first time in program history in 1993 and have a 1-2-2 overall record against the Eagles. Against Los Angeles Mission, the Roadrunners hold a 1-1-1 record in Palm Desert. The next contest for Desert will be hosted at the COD Soccer Field on Friday, October 7th, when the Roadrunners will match up against the Norco Mustangs at 4p. The Roadrunners first played Norco in 2012 and have an overall record of 5-3-1 against the Eagles and a 4-0 record at home.
