Citrus College Baseball defeated Bakersfield College 8-2 yesterday and 10-4 today to complete the 3-0 series sweep.
Citrus College improves to 8-10 overall on the season and 3-0 in conference games, while Bakersfield College goes to 8-9 overall and 0-3 in conference on the season.
In yesterday's 8-2 win at Bakersfield College, the Owls got a dominant pitching start from Isaac Gonzales who picked up his third win of the season after going seven innings while striking out 10 batters and only giving up 2 runs. Nathan Hellein, Luke Willison, and Jordan Quintero each went 3-for-5 and combined for four RBIs and four runs scored in the game. Chase Bernal recorded two RBIs and drew two walks. Luke Willison and Adrian Sanchez each stole one base, while Owls' stolen base leader, Danyal Jenkins, stole two bases. Jonathan Maldonado pitched a no-hit, two strikeout eighth inning, while Reece Harney struck out two without allowing a hit in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Citrus College hosted Bakersfield College today for the series finale, earning a 10-4 win to complete the sweep. The Owls went down 2-0 in the top of the first inning but responded with three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead. In the top of the fourth inning the Renegades scored two runs to regain the lead at 4-3. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Owls put up four runs to take back the lead at 7-4. Dustin Yela hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning, Jordan Quintero scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning and Isaac Nava hit a sacrifice fly to score Luke Willison in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Owls got the 10-4 win.
Dustin Yela led the Owls today going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored. Danyal Jenkins went 2-for-3 with two runs scored one RBI and two stolen bases which gives him 16 stolen bases on the year (2nd in conference). Isaiah Santoyo struck out three batters through 3.1 innings, Eddie Rocha (W, 2-2) went 4.2 innings, striking out six batters to pick up the win and Reece Harney pitched a one-hit top of the ninth inning.
Citrus College will continue conference play as they begin a three-game series with College of the Canyons next Tuesday, March 11th. Game one is at Canyons, scheduled for 2 p.m.
