MOORPARK - Isreal "Izzy" Ramos smashed a two-run home run on his way to 3 RBI to help lead Coalinga College to a 7-5 non-conference win at Moorpark College on Tuesday.
The Falcons had to withstand a late ninth-inning rally by the Raiders, but ultimately came home with the victory.
Coalinga built up a 5-1 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh. Ramos set the tone with his two-run blast in the top of the second inning. And in the top of the seventh, Keito Takahashi laced a two-run single. Moments later, the Falcons pulled off a successful double steal of home by Takahashi and Taruki Kato.
But Moorpark came alive late in the contest, getting a run in the bottom of the seventh, another in the eighth, and two final runs in the ninth.
The Raiders had the tying run at the plate with two outs but Ty Burns was able to get out of the jam to end the game for the save.
Jaydian Chavira turned in one of his best starts of the season for the Falcons. He went 5 innings, scattering 7 hits while allowing just one run.
Coalinga banged out 12 hits, led by a 3 for 5 effort from Ramos. Takahashi (2 for 5, 2 RBI) and Kato (2 for 5, 1 RBI) also had two hits each.
The win improved Coalinga to 3-18 overall. The Falcons continue their SoCal trip on Wednesday (March 19) when they will play a doubleheader at Santa Barbara City College.
