Irvine Valley's baseball team played one of its start to finish games of the season Saturday in beating West Los Angeles, 3-1.

IVC improved its record to an impressive 7-3 overall.

The standout for Irvine Valley was sophomore left-hander pitcher Jackson Chastain.

Chastain got ahead early in counts and got some quick outs to pick up his first win of the season.

He went 6.2 innings and gave up just four hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Chastain handed it off to freshman reliever Andres Hernandez for 1.1 innings and then sophomore righty Zack Marker closed things out in the ninth inning with getting three straight outs.

On the offensive side, Irvine Valley took the lead in the bottom of the third inning and held on.

Sophomore first baseman Jackson Snitko got the Lasers on the board with a double to left to score freshman left fielder Cole Lefevbre.

Sophomore third basebman Shaun McCaghren, who has been on a hot streak at the plate, followed Snitko's two-baser with another double to put IVC ahead, 2-0.

McCaghren hit another double in the bottom of the fifth inning to score freshman shortstop Jake Amundson from second to make it a 3-0 game.

McCahren went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI. Amundson also had two hits for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley is back up against an undefeated Grossmont team on Tuesday at home at 1 p.m.

The Griffins edged the Lasers late in the game, 6-5, last week.
