The Irvine Valley women's basketball team might have earned its most important win of the season so far on Friday at home.
With craziness going on around the Orange Empire Conference as scores came in, the Lasers found themselves in a tie for second place with Cypress at 4-3 in the OEC standings.
By the way, IVC and Cypress face off next Wednesday at home at 5 p.m.
Irvine Valley, which snapped a two-game losing streak, shot 49.1 percent from the field and led from start to finish on Friday in a 73-53 conference win over Santa Ana.
The Lasers dropped their first meeting with the Dons on the road, 71-61, in early January after leading early on in the game.
The second match-up was no contest.
Irvine Valley led, 39-25, at the half and was up by as many as 25 points in the third quarter.
The Lasers had three players score in double figures with sophomore guard Moka Saiki leading with 15 points with four assists.
Freshman forward Alexis Price had 14 points six rebounds and five assists and freshman wing Kivonni Williams had her best game of the year in contributing 12 points (2 of 3 on three-pointers) with eight rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals.
Sophomore point guard Haruka Mikuma also had five assists and freshman guard Samantha Barnett added nine points and two steals for the Lasers.
Irvine Valley held Santa Ana to just 31.4 percent (22 of 70) shooting from the field and IVC out-rebounded the Dons, 45-37.
The Dons were paced by Anaya Beard with 18 points and nine rebounds before foulding out and Mia Rivera, who finished with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and six steals.
