Cañada Victorious Over Laney College In Game 2
In Game 2 of the 3 game series the Colts were triumphant over the Eagles 7-3.
In the bottom of the second a solo home run to right field by So. Dominic Avila put Cañada on the board.
The Colts then added one run in the third after So. SS Kyler Bittner reached first on an error to score Fr. OF Justin Gladfelter.
The 4th inning was productive for the Colts offense when hits by So. OF Kevin Sanchez (2B, RBI), So. 2B Chris Arce (single, RBI) and Fr. 1B Cole Leschak (single 2RBI) scored four runs bringing the score 6-0. Cañada would add on another run in the 8th when the Eagles walked in the final Colt run of the game.
RHP Shawn Pagee earned the win for Cañada bringing his record to 2-1 this season. The freshman starter allowed three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out three and walking two. So. RHP Gianvito Carriglio and Fr. LHP Gabriel Levine made relief appearances for the Colts before closer Mateo Rojas took the mound. Rojas, a freshman from Hillsdale High School, threw one inning of no-run ball for Cañada. The RHP gave up zero hits, striking out two and walking one.
Leschak drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Colts with two runs batted in, while leadoff hitter Gladfelter led the team in hits with two. Cañada had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks in the game. Arce, Sophomore C Colter McMasters, and Bittner led the team with two base on balls each. The Colts were on the run controlling the base paths stealing 6 bags with Bittner having the most with two. Defensively, Cañada turned two double plays in the game and didn't commit a single error. Leschak made the most plays with 11.
