Cypress Chargers Men's Water Polo Goes 3-1 at Día De Los Muertos Tournament
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress Chargers Men's Water Polo team finished strong at the Dia De Los Muertos Tournament hosted by Southwestern College, finishing with an impressive 3-1 record. The Chargers claimed victories over El Camino and San Diego Mesa on Friday, followed by a hard-fought loss to Grossmont in double overtime on Saturday, before bouncing back with a win over Palomar to close out the tournament.
Cypress began the tournament strong with a 13-11 win against El Camino, then continued their momentum in a dominant 21-9 performance over San Diego Mesa. Saturday's intense matchup against Grossmont resulted in a narrow 14-13 loss in double overtime, but the Chargers quickly regrouped to defeat Palomar 12-10 in their final game.
Key players led the way throughout the tournament. Standout performances included James Luther, who contributed a combined 8 goals, 3 assists, 5 steals, and 2 ejections drawn. Wes Brazada also delivered a stellar showing, tallying 13 goals, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 2 ejections drawn. Goalie Zach Populous anchored the defense with an outstanding 29 saves across the four games.
UP NEXT: Cypress will look to close out their season in strong fashion in the Orange Empire Conference Championships.
