Baseball Wins Once in WSC Opening Series

VALLEY GLEN, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College baseball team picked up one win and suffered two losses in the Western State Conference (North) opening series against LA Pierce College last week. AHC moves to 7-9 overall (1-2 WSC) while Pierce improves to a league mark of 4-2 (9-7 overall) after the three-game showing. 

The Bulldogs dropped the series opener in an 11-6 showing at home (BOX SCORE) on Tuesday and fell in a narrow 4-2 decision (BOX SCORE) on Saturday. The two losses bookended the lone series win, which came via a 6-2 finish (BOX SCORE), on Friday afternoon. 

Hancock got on the board early in game two, scoring in the first inning before adding runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take control of the game. The Bulldogs totaled 11 hits, including six doubles and a triple, while taking advantage of timely hitting to drive in runs.

Colin Johnston led the charge with a 3-for-4 showing that included two RBIs, two doubles, and a triple. Owen Bolich also had a big day at the plate on Friday after collecting three hits, including two doubles, and driving in one run. Josue Garcia added to the effort with a pair of hits and as many RBIs. 

On the mound, starter Gage Mattis was efficient across five innings, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out four to pick up the win (1-0). Austin Moccardini followed with four shutout innings, earning the save by limiting Brahmas to two hits and striking out three.

The Bulldogs are set to return to action this week with a three-game conference series against Moorpark. They will host on Tuesday (Mar. 4), travel to Moorpark on Thursday (Mar. 6), and close out the series at home on Saturday (Mar. 8).
