Owls Drop Series to No. 4 Ranked Mounties

Citrus College Baseball couldn't find a win in their two-game series against Mt. San Antonio College, falling 7-2 on Tuesday, March 18, at Mt. SAC and dropping the second game 6-2 at home on Thursday. The losses brought Citrus to 8-15 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while Mt. SAC improved to 22-3 overall and maintained thier 9-0 conference record. 

In Tuesday's loss, Mt.SAC put up five runs in the first two innings and added two more runs in the fourth inning to go up 7-0. The Owls managed to put up one run in both the sixth and seventh innings but couldn't close the gap. Chase Bernal, Luke Willison, Ezekiel Escalera and Isaac Nava all recorded one hit in the game. Nathan Hellein went 2-for-4 with one RBI.  

Citrus showed more fight in the second matchup, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Luke Willison got things started with an RBI double that brought home Nathan Hellein, and Ezekiel Escalera followed with an RBI single to score Willison. 

The Mounties responded, scoring six runs over the final four innings to seal the 6-2 win. 

The Owls were led by Dustin Yela who went 3-for-5, Isaac Nava who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and Luke Willison who went 1-for-3 with one RBI, one run scored, one stolen base and two walks. Isaac Gonzales pitched six scoreless innings, striking out four batters. Reece Harney pitched two innings, striking out one batter and only allowing one run.  

Citrus College will travel to Grossmont College tomorrow, Friday, March 21st for their final non-conference game of the season at 1 p.m.
