
Women's Basketball knocked off Cabrillo, 64-59, to pick up the team's third home victory of the week. The Cougars are currently ranked 23rd in the State rankings and finished their homestand versus the 28th-ranked Seahawks. Both teams came out gunning and combined for a game-high 38 points in the first quarter, with Cuesta holding the two-point edge, 20-18. In the second quarter the Cougars posted 20 more points but clamped down on defense and cruised into halftime with a 16-point lead, 40-24. The Seahawks made their adjustments during the break and battled back to take the lead. Cuesta scored first after the intermission to extend their lead to a game-high 18 points but scored only five more points over the next nine minutes as Cabrillo clamped down on defense and exploded for a game-high 23 points in the quarter. The two teams entered the final quarter tied, 47-47, with ten minutes to make their case for victory. The Cougars regrouped and pushed through to the win by outscoring the Seahawks, 17-12, for a five-point victory, 64-59. Cuesta is currently 6-4 on the season.
2024 All-WSC First Team Guard Reese Pasternik joined fellow Sophomore Guard Bella Musolff and Freshman Forward Kaylee Batten to lead the Cougars' offensive attack. Pasternik netted a game-high 18 points, including an 8-for-9 performance from the "charity stripe, while also posting game-highs with 11 rebounds and six assists. Musolff added 10 points, four assists and a game-high three steals, while Batten paired a dozen points with a half-dozen boards.
The Cougars return to the road with games at Bakersfield and Chabot, in Hayward. Cuesta shall be in the San Joaquin Valley Thursday (6 PM) and the Bay Area on Saturday (4 PM).
