SBVC Honors Sophomores, Rolls Past Barstow

Taking the court for their final Saturday home game, the sophomores on the San Bernardino Valley College women's basketball team wanted to make sure to perform for the family members who gathered for the game.

And they did.

Domineek Butler poured in an SBVC career high 26 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead the Wolverines to a 73-32 Inland Empire Athletic Conference victory over Barstow College.

After a tight first 10 minutes, the Wolverines pulled away in the second quarter, holding the Vikings to only six points in the period.

Sophomore Tiyanna Padilla posted her second consecutive game in double figures, as she had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Destiny Melendez posted 18 points with seven steals. Mo'nikque Lightfoot added seven points and eight rebounds, while Kassiah Harper and Maryanne Palacios each had 10 rebounds.

SBVC was credited with 30 steals, while Barstow committed 41 turnovers.

The Wolverines close the home portion of their season at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Cerro Coso.
