Women's basketball extends winning streak to three

The San Diego Mesa women's basketball team extends their winning streak to 3 after defeating Cerritos College 50-43. Despite being down at halftime, the Olympians were able to dominate the 3rd quarter, scoring 20 points against the Falcons 9.

The Olympians have won four out of five games in December. Head coach Lindsay Samaniego attributes the recent success to the defense coming up with timely stops and also taking better care of each possession. "Our game experience has been helping us close out games," adds Samaniego. "We've been really locked in this week and have done a great job on both sides of the ball. I've been really happy with our focus and steady improvement. We are not where we need to be, but we are showing improvements each game."

The dynamic duo of Gwen Morris - Lundstrom and Emma Fitzgerald continue to impress. Morris-Lundstrom had a game high 15 points, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds. Fitzgerald contributed with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 steals. "They both use their speed and athleticism to their advantage getting to the rim and creating easy offense off their steals," states Samaniego. "They've also been doing a great job knocking down open shots."

The team will host LA Harbor College on Tuesday, December 13th at 5:00 p.m., followed by Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday, December 21 at 4:00 p.m.They will then participate in the PCAC / Orange Empire Conference Tournament Holiday Crossover beginning on December 29.
