Chargers Face #1 Butte in State Quarterfinals

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress women's basketball (22-7, 9-3 OEC) take on the Butte Roadrunners (26-3, 9-1 GVC) in the State Quarterfinals.

After Cypress upsetted Moorpark in the Final Round of Regionals, the squad now takes on the highest ranked team from the NorCal bracket. The Chargers have traveled to Lemoore to compete at the Golden Eagle Arena for the final eight team matchups. The Chargers, who finished second in the conference, join Orange Coast as the two teams representing the Orange Empire Conference. 

Cypress were successful in reaching state competition when they bested the Moorpark Raiders in a close face off. Ashley Hawkins, MVP of the OEC, recorded yet another double-double in the close matchup. The Chargers went on the road to defeat the higher ranked Raiders in a hard fought battle till the end. 

In the state competition, Cypress will again be the lower ranked team as they come in as the #4 seed from SoCal. Butte College has been placed as the #1 seed from the NorCal bracket after a 26-3 season. The Roadrunners finished their season with a 9-1 conference record and are on an eleven game win streak. The two teams will compete on neutral grounds at Golden Eagle Arena for a chance to be in the Final Four CCCAA playoffs.
