Santiago Canyon Captures Road Win at Santa Ana

#3 Ranked Santiago Canyon College wrapped up a 3-game week with a victory at Santa Ana College on Friday Night. The Hawks used their up-tempo style of play to secure a 90-72 victory over the Dons. SCC started hot and never looked back. The hawks were able to build a 23-point lead with about 8 minutes to go in the half, but Santa Ana battled back and cut the lead to 16, with the score 50-34. Antoine Jenkins fueled the Hawks in the half with 15 points on 6 of 7 shooting, including 3 three-pointers. David Agba, Paul Vilela, and Kevin Dobson contributed 7 points apiece in the half. As a team, SCC was 7 for 16 from the 3-point line.
The Dons started the 2nd half fast and cut the lead to 9 points in the first few minutes, but the Hawks answered and built their double digit lead again. The game stayed up tempo and fast paced throughout, while SCC maintained a lead close to 20 throughout. Santa Ana was unable to cut the lead into single digits as the Hawks continued to fastbreak and score in transition. SCC was able to secure the win for their 18th victory on the season. Jenkins was the team's leading scorer for the game with 19 points, but the Hawks had 5 others in double digits. Kevin Dobson came off the bench and had a terrific game scoring 15 points and connecting on 4 of 6 from the 3-point line. A.J. Garrity also contributed 15 points while going a perfect 9 for 9 from the free throw line. Agba and Vilela both chipped in with 12 points, while Paulo Araujo finished with 10 points. Agba also snared 12 rebounds and had 3 steals on the evening. Jenkins dished out 6 assists.
SCC is back in action on Wednesday, January 22nd at home as they host Irvine Valley College. Game time is set for 6pm. They will also travel to Orange Coast College next Friday, January 24 for a 5pm game against the Pirates.
