NorCal l SoCal
SAN BERNARDINO - For the 2023 women’s soccer season there has been one thing that found a consensus among all the metrics:
Last season’s state finalists, Saddleback and Chaffey Colleges have been the top two programs in the state again this year.
And the two teams appear locked into a collision course again in the California Community College Athletic Association women’s soccer playoffs.
Chaffey (18-1-3) earned the top seed in the Southern California Regional bracket, with Saddleback (19-0-1) taking the No. 2 spot. In the Northern California Regional bracket, San Joaquin Delta (14-2-5) earned the top spot, with Clovis (18-2-1) sitting at No. 2.
All four of those teams are awaiting their first-round opponents, as play-in games are scheduled for Thursday in both regions.
Up North, San Joaquin Delta awaits the winner of No. 18 Los Medanos (14-5-2) at No. 15 Modesto (8-9-4). Clovis will take on the winner of No. 17 Evergreen Valley (9-9-3) at No. 16 Hartnell (8-10-3).
The South Region features three play-in games. No. 14 Ventura (9-6-6) hosts No. 19 Moorpark (11-8-3) for the chance to take on No. 3 Long Beach City (14-0-5) in the first round. No. 18 Antelope Valley (13-4-4) travels to take on No. 15 Los Angeles Pierce (10-5-5) for the right to take on Saddleback. And Chaffey awaits the winner of No. 17 El Camino (12-4-3) at their Inland Empire Athletic Conference foe, Mt. San Jacinto (15-2-2).
After Saturday’s first round, the teams will advance to second-round games scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 21. The third round will take place Saturday, Nov. 25 with the state final four and championship games taking place at Mt. San Antonio College Dec. 1 and Dec. 3.
