Water Polo Dominates in the Pool

VALLEY GLEN - Men's and Women's Water Polo absolutely dominated Santa Monica in the pool on Wednesday.

In their first home conference game, the Men opened the day with a game at 3:00 p.m.  It didn't take long for the men to assert their dominance when they jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter.  That score would be a precursor for the rest of the game - the Monarchs would give up just one goal per quarter.  Their most dominant scoring quarter came after the half time break when the Monarchs scored 8 goals.  The final score between L.A. Valley and Santa Monica was 23-4.

The Women followed with their own game at 4:30 p.m.  One can argue the Women had an even more dominant performance against Santa Monica - the Monarchs gave up one single goal in the second quarter.  Offensively, it was a total team effort with nine Monarchs scoring!  Ashley Hartunian led with three goals.  Zoey Francis, Mindy Hernandez, Kyra Freemon and Nicole Tovar each had two goals. And Mariane Avila, Demy Brati, Kelly Long and Ann Donohoe each contributed one goal.  The finals score of the Women's game was Monarchs 15, Santa Monica 1.

Incredible home conference opener for both the Men's and Women's Water Polo teams!  The Men's team will play again on Wednesday, October 18 at 3:00 p.m.  The Women will spend the weekend at the Citrus tournament with four games against Pasadena City, American River, Miramar and Citrus.
