Beach Volleyball Falls in Non-Conference Play
The Santiago Canyon College beach volleyball squad traveled to El Cajon, CA on Friday morning to face off against the defending state champion Grossmont College Griffins and fellow Orange Empire Conference (OEC) member Cypress College Chargers in non-conference play. The Hawks displayed seven active players on the sand, but fell to both teams by the final score of 5-0.
Freshman duo Laisha Hochstrasser and Chelsea Riedel teamed up as the top duo for both matches and experienced their best set against Cypress. They narrowly lost the opening set by the final spread of 21-18. They recorded double-digit points in all but one set.
Freshman tandem Peyton Speakman and Sophie Ziglinski were slotted as the Hawk's number two and dropped bot sets with the most success coming against the Griffins. They tallied double-digit outputs in both sets.
Freshman Ashlyn Smith teamed up with sophomore Gabrielle Hanfield against Grossmont and freshman Nicole Rodriguez against Cypress. They, too, fell in straight sets in both matches.
