Men's Water Polo headed to CCCAA So Cal’s with third-place finish in SCC Championships with 8-4 win over Rio Hondo

(Walnut, CA) For the 14th time in the last 22 years, the Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo team has advanced to the CCCAA Southern California Regional Championships.

The Mounties (12-16), who defeated Rio Hondo, 8-4, in the third-place game in the South Coast Conference Championships, qualified for the So Cal's, which begin Thursday (Nov. 11) at Southwestern College in Chula Vista.

No. 10 Seed Mt. SAC will face a familiar foe, No. 7 Seed Grossmont College, in a first-round game.

Grossmont (22-12) defeated the Mounties earlier this season in the Dia De Los Muertos Tournament at Southwestern College.

The Mounties also faced Grossmont in a first-round game in the 2018 So Cal's.

In their 14 So Cal's appearances, the Mounties advanced to the semifinals in 2001 and '03 and the second round or quarterfinals four times.

Mt. SAC was led by freshman utility Luke Noblett with three goals, followed by Trevor Ingersoll with two goals and one goal each by Aidan Murphy, Diego Lopez and Adam Dow.

The Mounties, led by freshman goalie Noah Stark, had a shutout going until early in the fourth period when the Roadrunners scored.

Stark ended up with seven saves in the game.

Goals by Noblett, Ingersoll, Lopez, and Murphy gave the Mounties a 4-0 halftime lead, with two goals each in the first and second periods.

Mt. SAC scored two more goals for the 6-0 lead before Rio Hondo got on the board early in the fourth period.
