(Walnut, CA) With two wins and a loss, the Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo team finished third in the South Coast Conference Championships, at the Marie T. Mills Aquatics Center Thursday and Saturday (November 4 and 6).

With the third-place finish on Saturday and 10-1 win over El Camino, the Mounties qualified and became the No. 12 Seed team for the CCCAA Southern California Championships Thursday through Saturday, November 11-13.

This is the seventh time in the last eight years that the Mounties have qualified for the So Cal's. From 2013 through 2018, they advanced to the quarterfinals.

The Southern California Regionals will be hosted at Southwestern College in Chula Vista.

Mt. SAC (12-17) will take on No. 5 Seed Ventura (19-6) Thursday, Nov. 11. The game time is 1:45 pm.

The Mounties opened the SCC Championships with a convincing, 17-7 win over Rio Hondo, with Alexis Ramirez leading the way with six goals.

In the second game, which a win would have advanced the Mounties to the title game, they lost to rival Cerritos, 14-6.

Cerritos jumped out to a 6-3 lead at the half and put the game away with five unanswered goals in the third quarter and the 11-3 lead.

Ramirez and Julia Bensing-Ruiz led the Mounties with two goals each.

In the third game of the championships, the Mounties secured their spot in the So Cal's with a convincing 10-1 win over El Camino.

The Warriors broke the shutout with 4:44 left in the game in the fourth period.

Leading the way for the Mounties was Xen Allen with five goals, followed by Julia Bensing-Ruiz with three and single goals by Madeline Gaitan and Samantha Martinez.
