The Pasadena City College women's water polo team picked up some steam in the third quarter with three late goals but East Los Angeles' 6-goal second quarter sent the Lancers to a South Coast Conference defeat, 10-5, on Wednesday at Pasadena Poly School.

The Lancers will play their final regular season SCC game--Sophomore Day--next Wednesday, Oct. 25 in a 2 p.m. SCC game v. Chaffey before participating in the SCC Championship Tournament on Nov. 3-4 at Long Beach City College.

Against East LA, PCC was tied at 1-1 after one quarter on a goal by Luna Encinas. However, the Huskies mounted an attack in the second period as Alina Perez scored three goals and assisted on two others to help ELAC take a 7-1 halftime lead.

In third, PCC scored three consecutive goals in the last 2:20 of the period as Encinas, Dymaris Gonzalez, and Ivy Samuel netted scores. The only goal in the fourth period was also a Lancers tally by Gonzalez. Emily Padilla led the defense with three steals while goalie Gloria Gray made four saves.

Samuel took a team-high eight shots on goal and finished with three points (goal, two assists) and two steals. Encinas added to her team-leading goal total as her two gave her 22 for the season. Gonzalez also had two goals, an assist and one field block.
