LONG BEACH – The Rio Hondo College women's beach volleyball team hit the sand on for a pair of non-conference matches at Rosie's Beach on Valentine's Day but showed no love to their opponents.

The Roadrunners ran their season-opening winning streak to eight matches after sweeping both Riverside City College and San Diego City College by scores of 5-0. The 8-0 start is the best in program history and eclipses last year's 7-0 run.

Rio Hondo lost just two sets over the 10 pairs matches. The duo of Maria Bejines and Maleia Petterez at No. 3 was pushed to three sets in both their matches but prevailed in 2-1 final scores.

The Roadrunners have just two more non-conference matches on the schedule. On Feb. 23, Rio Hondo travels to Carlsbad Beach to take on San Diego Miramar College and NAIA-level University of Saint Katherine.
