Men's soccer team wraps up regular season with shutout

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team shut out Cypress, 2-0, on the road Thursday afternoon in its regular season finale.

The Lasers improved their record to 12-3-6 overall and 7-1-6 in the Orange Empire Conference.

IVC, ranked No. 12 in the state, finished second in the OEC and stayed within the top eight in power points in the 3C2A.

Irvine Valley now awaits the announcement for the state playoffs early next week. Sixteen teams make the playoffs with the top eight hosting playoff games in the first round.

The start of the playoffs is Saturday, Nov. 18.

Sophomore standout forward Grant Miller scored both of Irvine Valley's goals on Thursday at Cypress. They were his team-leading 16th and 17th goals of the season.

Miller gave the Lasers the lead in the 12th minute with a goal and then put the game away in the 79th minute off of a pass from sophomore forward Ivan Lopez.

It was Lopez's 17th assist of the year.

Both Miller and Lopez finished with 37 points for the regular season.

Irvine Valley freshman keeper Christopher Arzate made two saves in the shutout win.

The Lasers out-shot Cypress, 12-8, in the contest.

More detalis about IVC's playoff date and time will come out early next week after the seeding meeting.
