Taft, Ventura Ring Some Bells In State Women's Volleyball Top 25
In any other year between 2012 and 2024, #5-ranked Taft College's sweep over #10 Fresno City on October 29 would have meant the end of the longest current conference win streak in the sport of women's volleyball, but while the accomplishment was significant for the Cougars, that victory will only be a footnote from a historical sense.
With the addition of Clovis this year, the Central Valley Conference split into two, 5-team divisions with Taft now in the CVC North and Fresno in the CVC South. That means Fresno's streak of now 197 consecutive conference victories continues. However, Taft still can say it is the first CVC team to defeat the Rams since the 2011 season and certainly help justifes the difference in higher ranking for the Cougars.
Meanwhile, Feather River continues its stranglehold on the #1 spot in this week's CCCWVCA State Top 25 Rankings. San Diego Mesa is still tops in the South at #2, followed by #3 San Joaquin Delta, and still the last of the undefeated Orange Coast slotted at #4.
After Taft, #6 Santa Monica benefited from an upset as new #18 Ventura shocked now #7 Santa Barbara City in four sets, thus allowing the Corsairs to leap frog the Vaqueros (SMC defeated SBCC in three in Sept. 24 crossover). Moorpark won a rematch v. Santa Barbara in five sets earlier last week to take over the Western State Conference North Division lead, but the Vaqueros for now stay ahead of the Raiders (SBCC beat MC in four the first matchup) in the rankings.
Ventura jumped six spots while Mt. San Antonio climbed into the top 10 at #9.
