Blocks leader paces State Women's Volleyball Players of the Week #7
A couple of Western State Conference talents--Los Angeles Mission College middle blocker Amya Cheatham-January and Santa Monica utility player Mia Whitlock--and San Mateo outside hitter Synia Hunt have all earned the CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #7.
Cheatham-January, a 6-foot-4 sophomore from Bear Creek High in Stockton, totaled 29 kills (hit .386) and made 14 blocks in LAM's victories over Allan Hancock and Ventura. A member of the Eagles' state tourney quarterfinalist team as a freshman, Cheatham-January leads the state in blocks per set (2.02), block solos (69) and block assists (64).
Whitlock, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, middle blocker and libero from Burlington-Edison High in Washington, landed 20 kills with 11 digs and two aces while hitting .355 overall in SMC's wins over Bakersfield and Citrus.
