Chabot and Santa Monica send singles and doubles players into women's tennis state semifinals
WALNUT - After the first day of the CCCAA Women’s State Tennis Championships at Mt. San Antonio College on Friday, two teams will be well represented with a singles player and doubles team each going for titles.
Chabot’s Zoe Olmos, seeded No. 1 in singles and its No. 1 doubles team of Olmos and Julie Santiago won in straight sets en route to the semifinals on Saturday. Olmos will take on No. 2 South Anna Kynclova (LA Mission) and Olmos/Santiago will face No. 2 South Julia Jones/Kekoa Vaefa of El Camino College.
El Camino just came off of its first CCCAA State Championship in program history two weeks ago.
Olmos won both of her singles matches by identical scores of 6-1, 6-1.
Santa Monica, with the top seed in the South for singles, Nicole West, and its double team of West and Kai Nikchevich, will face Makayla Chassion (Monterey Peninsula) and the No. 4 South team (Grossmont) of Katherine Busani/Jiaying Zheng, respectively.
“It’s awesome to win,” said West of her first trip to the state championships and her singles match. “I’m just trying to make the second day. I played really well and capitalized on my second serves.
West dropped only two games in her two matches on Day 1.
Singles semifinal action starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday while doubles will follow.
