West Valley President's Athlete Scholar Olivia Ocher: undefeated court, perfect in classroom

SARATOGA - Olivia Ocher is the 2021 recipient of the West Valley College President's Athlete Scholar award, WVC President Stephanie Kashima announced recently.

Although Ocher will be trading West Valley orange and navy for UCLA blue and gold, her impact on Viking tennis will be felt for years. As part of coach Lauren Hickey's second recruiting class a year after the Vikings resurrected the program after a three-decade absence, Ocher raised the bar in 2021.

Ocher was a perfect 6-0 in singles, playing at the S1 and S3 spots, this season. She posted twin wins (doubles and singles) against Cabrillo (4/23) and Cañada (5/21).

Away from the WVC Tennis Complex, Ocher earned a 4.0 GPA and was awarded the 2021-2022 WVC Fang Pei Promise Fund scholarship. She received the 2020 WVC Charest Female Scholarship as a freshman. She will continue her academic career at UCLA in the fall.

"Olivia has gracefully navigated the challenge of being a student and an athlete while also working and volunteering," Hickey said. "She has grown into a team leader through her dedication and discipline."
