City College of San Francisco traveled to Pleasant Hill on Tuesday afternoon to take on the host Vikings. Heading into the game both schools were kicking off their seasons having played no game prior to the contest. The lack of games and heat in the high 80's had its effects on both teams early on but it was the visting Rams who struck first off a brillant solo run my forward Maleah Evans who took a pass from midfielder Andrea Moreno at half field and weaved through the DVC defense before slotting it home in the 22nd minute. Just 3 minutes later CCSF struck again when Alexandra Arouxet Jara picked up her first of 3 goals on the day off another assist my Moreno. The Vikings were quick to respond with a goal of their own just a minute later when Paulina Ibarra lofted a shot into the top corner from 25 yards out. Arouxet Jara closed the scoring for the half with her 2nd on the day in the 34th to give the Rams the 3-1 lead heading into half time.
In the second half CCSF poured on the pressure but were turned away time after time thought the stellar play of goalkeeper Josie Gonsalves who finished the game with 11 saves. Despite the excellent efforts by Gonsalves, midfielder Stella Naylor put the vistors up 4-1 on a blast from 20 yards out. Once again, DVC struck immediatley off a calm finish by Lily Redell in the 59th but that was to be outdone by the Rams who added two more on goals by Leslie Murillo and Arouxet Jara in the 86th and 87th minutes.
On the day, City College was lead by Alexandra Arouxet Jara's hat trick and the first win of the season by sophomore goalkeeper Alexia Estrada. CCSF will take its 1-0 record into back to back games this Friday and Saturday as they host Solano Cerritos College of Southern California.
