SACRAMENTO - Thirteen is anything but an unlucky number for the Mt. San Antonio women's basketball team which has strung together a baker's dozen winning streak of games to help vault into the top three of the California Community College Athletic Association Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) women's basketball poll this week. Only Big 8 Conference rivals San Joaquin Delta (22-1) and Sierra (18-2) sit in front of the Mounties as they continue 1-2 in the rankings.
Mt. SAC (20-3) was the benefactor of College of the Sequoias' 73-58 upset against previous No. 3 Fresno City (19-3) last Wednesday, which tumbled the Rams to No. 7 while jumping Sequoias (17-5) five spots to No. 11. There was also some slight shakeup just below the top four. Moorpark (18-2) and Palomar (20-2) were tied for fifth last week but the Raiders went up one spot, Palomar dropped a position and Irvine Valley (19-2), riding a 10-game winning streak, moved in between the pair. Only seven points separate the three teams.
Palomar also received the only other first-place vote from the pollsters while Delta picked up the other 11.
The biggest jump in the rankings this week came from Mt. San Jacinto (17-5) which had its nine-game winning streak snapped at Victor Valley, 60-58, on Monday night in the midst of poll voting, improved six positions to No. 12. The only newcomer to the rankings this week is No. 20 Long Beach City (15-6).
