Moorpark unanimous No. 1 in this week's CCCSIA State Top 20 Women's Basketball rankings
PASADENA - Moorpark earned a perfect score, taking all 15 first-place points to stay No. 1 on the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) Women's Basketball State Top 20 Rankings.
The Raiders (24-1) knocked off No. 17 Ventura, 96-82, last week and could very well end the Pirates' amazing streak of consecutive conference championships at 28. Moorpark has won eight straight overall.
Diablo Valley used a 6-point win over #15 Sacramento City to match Moorpark's 24-1 mark and move up two slots to No. 2. Los Angeles Trade Tech scored wins over #6 East Los Angeles and #12 Mt. San Antonio to catapult to No. 3 in the rankings. Also rising two spots to No. 4 is College of the Sequoias after finding its third meeting of the year v. Merced the charm in upsetting the Blue Devils, 77-75. Merced's 18-game win streak was stopped as it fell three spots to No. 5.
San Joaquin Delta remained at No. 7 with a 3-point win over #13 Sierra. The Mustangs have won six straight. El Camino has won 10 of its last 11 and stays in the No. 8 spot. City College of San Francisco also occupies its same slot at #9 and defending state champ Mt. San Jacinto maintained its No. 10 ranking as it matches Moorpark for the state's current longest win streak at eight in a row.
West Los Angeles joins the state top 20 in a tie with Cabrillo.
Moorpark continues to be the RPI ratings leader at .670, followed by the big four South Coast Conference North Division teams who occupy the next four ratings. Merced is tied with Delta for the North's top RPI at .627 as the No. 5 and No. 6 teams.
Diablo Valley motors along as the state's highest-scoring offense at 89.5 points per game. State No. 18-rated Glendale is the third different state leader in defense in as many weeks at 50.3 points allowed a contest.
