3C4A announces All-State and All-Region teams ahead of state championship tournament
All-State and All-Region Teams
RIVERSIDE - Four players and two coaches highlight the 2022 California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (CCCFCA) All-State and All-Region awards. Mt. San Antonio’s Brianna Goris and College of San Mateo’s Lafu Mapleai have been named the North and South Players of the Year, while Santa Ana’s Emily Rosas and Butte’s Savannah Wahl were named the North and South Pitchers of the Year.
The 3CFCA announcement comes on the heels of the NFCA JC All-Americans announced last week.
Goris hauls in the honor after leading the state with a .565 batting average, a .651 on-base percentage and a monster 1.183 on base percentage. She was a slugger that was a pitcher’s worst nightmare while ranking second with 15 homeruns, third with 22 doubles and 10th with 48 RBI. She was often passed up as teams walked her 28 times to rank second in the state.
She began the season on a 14 game hitting streak by kicking off her season just a homerun shy of the cycle in a 4-for-4 effort with two doubles, a triple and an RBI. Throughout that stretch, she launched seven homeruns, barreled 29 hits and drove in 21 runs. She recorded two or more hits in 21 games and hit a perfect 1.000 in eight games.
Mapleai was the North’s best player as she ranked second with a 1.045 slugging percentage, fourth with a .518 batting average and 11th with a .544 on base percentage. She ended the season on an astonishing 20 game hitting streak where she drove in 25 RBI on 37 base hits. She also scored 33 runs and scored at least once in 19 of the 20 games.
She had three multi homerun games with the first coming in a 23-2 rout over Chabot in late February. She then continued to launch four homeruns in a two-game stretch. She launched two bombs in a win over Cabrillo, backed by a two-dinger effort in a 4-0 win over West Valley. She was responsible four six RBI and five runs scored.
Rosas, who was nearly unhittable the entire season, was crowned the South’s Pitcher of the Year after one of the most memorable campaigns in CCCAA history leading to a 36-6 record. She began the season by tossing two-consecutive no-hitters where she did not allow a base knock to two different lineups for 13 innings straight. She ended the season by throwing two no-nos, two of them coming against College of the Desert, and one in conference play. She pitched in all but one game for the Dons and led the state with 261.1 innings pitched, ranked second with 30 complete games and ranked seventh with a 0.94 ERA. She had the lowest ERA in the state among pitchers who threw 200 or more innings. Additionally, she had the second lowest ERA in the state with 150 or more innings pitched.
She was second in the state with 297 strikeouts after being just 13 punch outs off the state leader. She had nine games were she fanned 10 or more hitters highlighted by a 13 strikeout effort in a no-hitter win against Golden West. She struck out at least one batter in every game she pitched.
Wahl was named the North’s best gunslinger after posting 21-1 record in 144 innings pitched. She earned a lowly 0.68 ERA which was second in the state leading to 151 punch outs and a 7.34 strikeout-per-game clip. She allowed just 14 earned runs leading to 18 complete games.
She tossed a pair of no hitters with the last one acting as a perfect game in an 8-0 win over Shasta. She started the trend by chucking a five-inning no hitter in a win over Shasta to prove her dominance. In 13 games, she allowed no more than three this and recorded six double-digit strikeout games. He efforts were highlighted by a 12 fan showing in a win over Redwoods in early April.
Santa Ana Head Coach Marissa Ross was tabbed the South’s Coach of the Year following a season where she led her team to an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championship. Her team finished 37-7 which included a 20-4 conference record.
Ross and her staff were named the OEC Coaching Staff of the Year and saw her team earn a Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in Rosas and four All-Conference accolades. The Dons have earned the South’s third seed at the CCCAA State Championships.
Butte Head Coach Stacey York earned the North’s Coach of the Year honors after earning the Golden Valley Conference (GVC) Championships. She went a flawless 20-0 highlighted by a state-best 43-1 record. They earned the North’s second seed at the CCCAA State Championships beginning this weekend.
