San Mateo finishes regular season as No. 1 team in the state; Mt. San Antonio and Cypress are close behind
GLENDORA - With the 2019 California Community College Athletic Association Softball regular season, officially finished, we’re less than 24 hours away from announcing the post-season seeding for what’s shaping up to be a competitive round of playoffs. While the seedings won’t be announced until Saturday afternoon, the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association is releasing it’s final poll of the regular season, with likely NorCal #1 College of San Mateo checking in at the top spot in the State and Northern California. The likely top two seeds in the South Mt. San Antonio College and Cypress College, followed close behind.
For the Bulldogs, this weekend will likely seem like familiar territory as CSM will be looking to make it’s way to it’s seventh straight State Championship appearance. San Mateo led the State in wins with 37, and takes a 30 game winning streak into the post-season. Mt. San Antonio College checked in as the #2 in the State and #1 team in the South. The defending State Champs have won 14 straight and capped off yet another South Coast Conference North Division title recently. Cypress College, meanwhile was #3 in the State and #2 in the South as they claimed their 24th Orange Empire Conference Championship under Head Coach Brad Pickler and fifth in a row.
The #4 team in the State and #2 in Northern California was San Jose City College. The Jaguars have gained a lot of steam in the recent polls, and will be looking to keep the momentum going with them in the playoffs. SJCC went 34-4 in 2019 and were the champions of the Coast Conference South Division, the program’s 10th title under Head Coach Deborah Huntze-Rooney. San Jose has won 15 straight games. Rounding at the Top 5 was SoCal #3 Palomar College. The Comets are another team that seems to have momentum going their way as they closed out the regular season. Palomar are winners of 15 straight contests and were champions of the Pacific Coast Conference.
