Team Stats
Huntington Beach, CA - The Sierra College Men's Water Polo team opened up a 5-1 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Wolverines went on to defeat fellow Northern California school Diablo Valley College 19-12 to finish third at the 2019 California Community College Athletic Association State Championships.
Sierra jumped out to an early 2-0 lead using a 6-on-5 goal by Eduard Stefanescu and a score by Daniel Fineburg. Diablo Valley would rally with a goal by Thomas Baier, but Sierra would go on a 5-0 run to end the first and beginning of the second to take a solid 6-1 advantage. The Vikings would score two of the next three, but that only jump started another Wolverine run, this time a 4-2 variety that gave Sierra a 11-5 lead at halftime.
In the third, Diablo Valley would finally see an offensive outburst, with five scores in the frame. Unfortunately for them, so did Sierra. In the final quarter, the Wolverines outscored the Vikings 3-2 to help secure the seven point win.
Drew Grantham would lead the way for Sierra with a game high six goals and three assists. Fineberg added five scores, while Austin Wade would score twice and hand out a game high five assists. For Diablo Valley, Baier finished with a game high six scores and two assists.
