Mt. San Antonio men's water polo edges Rio Hondo, 10-8, in South Coast Conference action

WALNUT - The Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo Team held off a late-charging Rio Hondo College, 10-8 in a South Coast Conference game Wednesday, October 3rd at the Marie T. Mills Aquatic Center.
With the Mounties leading 9-5 entering the final period, Rio Hondo scored two goals in the first two minutes and one with 3:12 left to close within a goal, 9-8.
Mt. SAC center Noah Brokaw (3G, A), with the Mounties up a man, took a pass from attacker Edgar Cueva (3A) and gave them a two-goal lead (10-8) with 1:01 remaining.
Mounties utility player Jarrett Barker (3 Stl.), who scored 21 goals on their Eastern trip last weekend, led with four goals in the game. Jonathan Heredia (3 Stl.) added two goals and on the defensive side, Cueva had a game-high seven steals. Aidan O'Neill and Christian Lopez added four and three steals, respectively for the Mounties.
Neither team had more than a two-goal advantage in the first half, but with Brokaw's two goals along with a single goal by Barker and Jake Marsden in the third, the Mounties held a four-goal lead heading into the last period.
With the win Mt. SAC improves to 14-3 overall and 2-1 in conference.
The Mounties take a break from conference action and will host NCAA Division I Fordham University on Thursday, October 4th at 6:30 pm.
