Hartnell sprinter De'Antae Choates takes his talents to the Pac-12 and Washington State
SALINAS - Sophomore De'Antae Choates knew what he wanted even before he stepped foot on the Hartnell College campus. He wanted to be an NCAA Div. I student-athlete and over two-and-a-half years he honed his craft on the track to be recognized by Pac-12 program Washington State University for an athletic scholarship.
A CIF State Championship qualifier in the 100-meter dash while at Seaside High School, De'Antae diversified his sprint resume while a Panther, improving on his 200-meter open time and learning to run both relays. As a freshman, he finished fourth at the CCCAA Northern California Championships in the 100 meters with the fifth-best mark in program history (10.64). He also lowered his 200-meter best to 21.69 which stands seventh-best all-time.
His freshman year was capped by anchoring the 4x100 meter relay team to a No. 2 all-time mark of 41.30, despite a rain-soaked track at the College of San Mateo at the 2019 CCCAA Championships. He was also member of the 4x400 relay team that ran 3:18.39 that sits at 11th best all-time in school history.
